  1. Jan 01,  · Frankie Laine wasn't country in the way that Johnny Cash was. He was more of a pop artist than a western music artist. But that's what I love about this album. It's very theatrical and easy to approach. In retrospect, it's just a fun listen from a talented singer. And it sounds magnificent on vinyl/5(22).

  4. Included on those 2 cd's are all the songs from HELL BENT FOR LEATHER, recorded in pristine sound that Bear Family is known for. All the other songs on those 2 cd's are western related and are fantastic. Avoid this Hallmark cd at all costs. You've been warned. Frankie (Leather Lungs) Laine deserves better treatment than this/5().
  5. Whilst he excelled in several musical genres, perhaps the one Frankie Laine made his own was the cowboy singer. Whilst many had enjoyed success in this style prior to Frankie, most notably the likes of Roy Rogers and Gene Autry, the genre had been largely forgotten until Frankie Laine came up with Hell Bent for Leather/5().
  6. Frankie Laine's voice is perfect for these songs. The order of the songs on the album is perfect, beginning with the spoken opening to Wanted Man and saving the jewel - Rawhide - for opening side 2/second half. it's got everything: clip clop of horse hooves, operatic choir back up, snapping whips and a growling Frankie Lane/5().

  8. Hell Bent for Leather This album of western classics by Laine established him as "a cowboy singer" for many young fans who grew up in the s. The album's title is taken from a line in the popular television theme song Laine recorded for the popular Eric Fleming / Clint Eastwood western, Rawhide, which appears on the album.
